Too Much Fun!

So ever since Cami and Lily arrived on Wednesday we've been having a lot of fun! Too much fun if you ask some people. Shiloh, Jason & their clan got into town in the wee hours of Thursday morning and it's been one big party ever since. About the only problem is that Lily is scared of me. She and Gideon play really great together, (in fact, they adore each other) but when she sees me coming she hides behind her mom and sometimes breaks out crying. I'm thinking it's the crutches and the funny boot. Anyway Cami left her with me the other day and she woke up before Cami got back. She screamed and cried and kicked and refused to look at me. She just laid her head on the floor and sobbed. I'd feel bad except that it was too darn cute!

Friday was cupcake day. I spent all afternoon baking for Cody's bon voyage/birthday party. At one point I realized Gideon was too quiet. When I found him, he was hiding under the counter, with a cupcake in each hand. His arms are apparently longer than I thought.
The rest of the family came over for dinner Friday night and we got to employ the little battery operated scooter a neighbor gave me. The kids absolutely loved it.

The bigger kids (like Jonas, above) got to ride it themselves, but Gideon is still too small, so Uncle Cody helped him "drive."
Then we had a pinata. Because every party needs a pinata. Actually this thing has been floating around my parents' house for about five years and mom decided she was tired of looking at it, so she told dad and Cody to stuff it for the the kids. Gideon was thrilled that we were letting him whack something with his light sabre, since usually we're telling him not to do that.

All of the kids got a turn at it.
But we made sure Cody had something more substantial than a light sabre so that it would break.

Even Shiloh enjoyed our hot new ride. (Although she did not enjoy the cold front we had move in just in time for the weekend.)

So Gideon loves suckers and he's apparently very picky. When all the kids were scrambling for candy, he ONLY went for the suckers.
Smart boy!

Gruesome Foot Pictures

Okay the photos really aren't that gruesome, but I just wanted to give those of you who have weaker stomachs, a chance to look away.

Surgery went just great. These pictures were actually taken on Friday the 31st when I went back for a follow-up with the doctor. As you can see my foot is still pretty swollen here. In fact, it's still swollen next to the other one.
Yesterday we went back to the Dr. and he took the stitches out. The foot looks more bruised now and less swollen than in the photo below. The Dr. told me that when they got the bunion off, he actually found a cyst in the bone which he had to clean out and then graft some bone into. It worked out well I guess that some of the bone they had just taken off was really good, so they were able to graft it with my own bone. It will still be 4-5 weeks before I'm walking or driving, but I'm getting around a little bit better now, so we moved home on Thursday.

We moved in with Trav's parents right after surgery so that I would have help with munchkin. They were wonderful. He's an active guy though and I know he gave them a run for their money a couple of times. Thursday morning my mother-in-law called to me to come quickly and bring the camera. This is what we found:

How he got up there without breaking his neck is a mystery to all of us. But he seemed to be having a good time using everyone's toothbrushes to "brush" his teeth.

And finally, my family returned home on Friday morning. We spent the day with them yesterday. It was a lot of fun including a trip to the pet store with my mom to get a rat. Gideon was so proud of it he wanted to carry the cage. I'm not really sure how I feel about that, but oh well. At least it was in a cage.

And that's the deal for now. I'll post newer pictures of the foot after my appointment next week.

Hair Cut & a Happy Birthday

Munchkin finally got a much needed hair cut today! Thank you Aunt Jesse! He did great at holding still, (well, as still as you could expect from a busy 16 month old) and he didn't fuss or scream or cry or anything.

After the hair cut we went to Uncle Kelly's 30th birthday party. It was a lot of fun. Munchkin was like a puppy running in circles while the guys threw a football around. He really had a great time.

And he definitely wanted the cake. He kept climbing up on the table to try and get into it.

And lo and behold guess what happened as soon as we finished singing happy birthday. He got two full fists of cake before anyone caught him. It was very funny. I guess a lot can change in four months. We couldn't get him to dig into his own birthday cake. Now he couldn't wait to demolish someone else's. Oh well, he's young enough it was still very cute. (Although getting that green icing off was no picnic.)
At any rate I'm off to surgery tomorrow, so it will be a few days until I post again. Enjoy!

Another 5K and lots of munchkin pictures

Riding around in the car with mommy all day can get really tiring.

Oh that life could always be so simple!

Friday we drove down to Utah.

We took the train up to SLC to play.

Munchkin enjoyed the train ride and loved the Planetarium even more.

We walked around Gateway for a while and got some dinner. Once again the backpack leash turned out to be a Godsend. Gideon actually loves wearing it because he knows that it means he'll get to walk instead of having to ride in a stroller or be carried.

So tired on the way home!

Aunt Hillary got hold of the camera apparently.

This morning we got up early and Hillary and I ran the Spring View Farms 5K in Riverton, UT. Gideon played in the park with Uncle Jake and then greeted us at the finish line. I was exhausted because I didn't sleep well at all last night, but somehow managed to make it.

This was Hillary's first competitive race and she did really well. Unfortunately her dear husband forgot to get any pictures of me running. Oh well. I did it. That's what matters. I managed to shave two minutes off my time from the 4th. It still isn't good, but I guess I'll take whatever I can get. Especially since this will be the last one for a while.

YIKES! I'm so scary without makeup! I look about a hundred years old!

This one is for daddy. Recognize those killer sunglasses?
