Well summer's basically gone and we spent most of it outside whenever possible. Our garden turned out to be quite fruitful having produced peas, beans, tomatoes & squash so far, with corn and carrots and beets still coming up.
I started school last week. I'll admit, for the first few days I felt like I was trying to drink from a fire hose. It was more than little overwhelming. But now that we're starting to get into a routine and I've gotten familiar with the professors & their teaching style, I think I'm finally settling in and getting comfortable. It's still a lot of work and I definitely don't have the down time that I used to, but I'm enjoying it. I get to use terms like "civil litigation" and "concurrent jurisdiction" (and yes I actually know what they mean.) It's really fun to say stuff like that.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to run in 2 1/2 weeks. I've been having a pain in the top of my foot on and off for months now. Two weeks ago after two different runs I noticed a pretty big lump. I thought it was a cyst and went to a doctor to have it asperated, but when he saw & felt where it was, he wouldn't touch it because it's attached to a tendon. So they referred me to a podiatrist, (who I finally got in to see today) who did an ultrasound and discovered it's not actually a cyst, it's a lump of tissue that's become hard & thick. So asperation would do no good, they'll have to surgically remove it. It's just an outpatient thing they do in the office and they can get me in to do that on September 10th. I'll be walking that day, but it will be a few weeks before I'm running again. Needless to say I'm pretty much losing my mind. I'm really not a nice person when I don't get to run.
Still despite not getting to run I can still say that I'll reach my goal. 10 years ago I decided on my 25th birthday (when I was newly married and close to 50 pounds overweight with bad skin) that I would be in better shape at 35 than 25. With my 35th birthday less than a month away and coming off of a summer where I ran 3 half marathons, I can say pretty easily I've managed that. (I'll post pictures and do my usual pontificating as we get closer to the day.) For now though I can say my next goal is to be in the best shape of my life when I hit 40. Thank heaven that's still half a decade away!
Other than that minor setback though things have been about normal. Parker's really starting to say more phrases. She's quite cute. She's obsessed with cows and cats and goes around the house "mooing" & "meowing" all the time. I can't believe she'll be two in just three weeks. That doesn't seem possible. She has so much spunk and personality and she never slows down.
Gideon is looking forward to starting preschool next week. He's been asking everyday for months when he gets to go. I'm very excited about his teacher (who is amazing) and I think he'll do really well.
Travis has been in Carlsbad, NM for over a month now, but should be home the weekend before my surgery. After that they're talking about sending him to Elko, NV for up to two years (contingent upon when the Haiti job might me begin.) So as usual, we'll just have to wait and see where he ends up.
Anyway with birthdays and preschool coming up, I'm sure I'll have pictures to post soon. But at least this way you don't think I've forgotten you. We're just..... here. And very, very busy.

Thank you for the update and know I am anxiously awaiting any pictures.
At least you update more than once a quarter. My goal for this school year since I'm not homeschooling is to update my blog at least twice a month. we'll see how that goes. Good luck with everything!!!!
