Hair Cut & a Happy Birthday

Munchkin finally got a much needed hair cut today! Thank you Aunt Jesse! He did great at holding still, (well, as still as you could expect from a busy 16 month old) and he didn't fuss or scream or cry or anything.

After the hair cut we went to Uncle Kelly's 30th birthday party. It was a lot of fun. Munchkin was like a puppy running in circles while the guys threw a football around. He really had a great time.

And he definitely wanted the cake. He kept climbing up on the table to try and get into it.

And lo and behold guess what happened as soon as we finished singing happy birthday. He got two full fists of cake before anyone caught him. It was very funny. I guess a lot can change in four months. We couldn't get him to dig into his own birthday cake. Now he couldn't wait to demolish someone else's. Oh well, he's young enough it was still very cute. (Although getting that green icing off was no picnic.)
At any rate I'm off to surgery tomorrow, so it will be a few days until I post again. Enjoy!

Another 5K and lots of munchkin pictures

Riding around in the car with mommy all day can get really tiring.

Oh that life could always be so simple!

Friday we drove down to Utah.

We took the train up to SLC to play.

Munchkin enjoyed the train ride and loved the Planetarium even more.

We walked around Gateway for a while and got some dinner. Once again the backpack leash turned out to be a Godsend. Gideon actually loves wearing it because he knows that it means he'll get to walk instead of having to ride in a stroller or be carried.

So tired on the way home!

Aunt Hillary got hold of the camera apparently.

This morning we got up early and Hillary and I ran the Spring View Farms 5K in Riverton, UT. Gideon played in the park with Uncle Jake and then greeted us at the finish line. I was exhausted because I didn't sleep well at all last night, but somehow managed to make it.

This was Hillary's first competitive race and she did really well. Unfortunately her dear husband forgot to get any pictures of me running. Oh well. I did it. That's what matters. I managed to shave two minutes off my time from the 4th. It still isn't good, but I guess I'll take whatever I can get. Especially since this will be the last one for a while.

YIKES! I'm so scary without makeup! I look about a hundred years old!

This one is for daddy. Recognize those killer sunglasses?

guess what we found

So Smart it's Scary!

Seriously, the munchkin learns so much everyday now that it's almost frightening! He knows so much now that I can't even remember everything he's learned lately. Like how to pour cereal into a bowl. To wipe his hands and face after a meal. To throw away trash in the garbage can. (Of course he needs a little help with that one since we still have the "child safety latches" on the cabinets. But that doesn't stop him from trying to squeeze stuff through the doors until mom can get there to open them.) He can open almost any container and loves to demonstrate this to anyone who will watch. He not only opens it, but then shows you how to put the lid back on. He loves to "help" in the kitchen and gets mad when you won't let him cook. He looks at books and "reads" out loud to himself and others. And of course, he has an ever growing vocabulary. In addition to the usual "mama" "Dada" etc. He says sooooo many words. "kitty" "juice" "Down" "up" "hi" "bye-bye" "night-night" "Come" "kiss" "here" etc, etc, etc. I could keep going, but I forget all of them.

I guess I didn't realize just how big and smart Gideon is until we watched Gavin on Friday. Gavin is 8 months old. In many ways he's a lot like Gideon. He's already pulling himself up on stuff, he crawls really fast and he's clearly very bright because he caught on to Gideon's basketball game right away. The two boys played very well together and were even on the same napping, eating, diapering schedule. Which meant that I managed to get a full hour of time to myself while they were both down for naps. Still, Gavin is only half Gideon's age. Gavin still seems like a baby. And next to Gavin, Gideon is definitely not a baby any more. He's very much a little man in a toddler's body.

I also noticed that Gideon doesn't want to be treated like a baby. He wanted to help with Gavin. He wanted to help feed him. Every time Gavin would lose his pacifier, Gideon was picking it up and shoving it back in his mouth. He wanted to pick out toys for Gavin and show him how to use them. He wanted to help carry stuff outside. He wanted Gavin to learn how to pet the kitty and be "gentle." (Also one of his new words.) He really thought he was a big kid next to the younger boy.

It was a great experience having Gavin over, but it also made me a little sad. I miss my baby. He's just not a baby anymore.

*Sigh* Okay I'll stop complaining at how fast my munchkin is growing. Yesterday Grampa brought over a new present for him.
Suffice it to say he LOVED it and screamed bloody muder when I finally took him out of it after half an hour. But it was bedtime. Fortunately, for the time being I'm still bigger & stronger than he is. (Although the day is fast approaching when I won't be. This kid is STRONG and he has an iron grip!)

Don't worry kiddo, the swing will still be there tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day...

Bruce wanted to go snorkeling again, no problem for me. It is good since he can't swim. A few of the pictures of fish turned out, so here are some more pictures of beer cans and shoes.

An old Spanish fort built and used from 1600-to the early1800s for ships in the trade industry to stop and get supply's, protection from pirates, which by the way were only about
20 miles up the road which is now called Jeff's Pirate cove.
I will get pics of that later
