The Other Wedding

Sometimes marriage can be a juggling act. In fact, sometimes weddings can be a juggling act. What do you do when you have two weddings to attend across the country on the same day? Answer: You pick one and hope no one gets their feelings hurt.

Travis's niece, Amie (the daughter of his sister, Kathie) got married on Saturday May 16th, the same day as my cousin, Erin. The only problem was that Erin's wedding was in Indiana and Amie's was in San Diego. For weeks we contemplated which wedding to attend. In the end the determining factor really was that we had just been back to San Diego in August for Kathie's funeral and I hadn't been back to Indiana for years and years. So I chose sent our regrets to Amie and Viktor and chose to go see my family in the midwest. (Sidebar, I know that technically Amie is my niece, but I really have a hard time thinking of her that way since she's my age.)

Of course, Trav's parents and his brother Shawn went to the wedding in Californa so at least we got to see some pictures. I wasn't there, so I don't really have all the details. What I can tell you from the conversations I've had with them is that the wedding was beautiful. It was held in the back yard of Neal and Kathie's house, which if you've seen pictures of before you know is huge and beautiful. They rented a fancy, air-conditioned porta-potty for the occasion and yes, there are pictures to show just how nice it was. They had both a band and a DJ. They released butterflies at the end of the ceremony and Amie was walked down the aisle by both her father, Jon and her step-dad Neal.

I don't know many people in the pictures, but I can tell you that the blonde bridesmaid is Travis's niece Andrea (daughter of his sister, Peggy) and the ring bearer was her son, Aidan. Other than that, I'll try and label the pictures as best I can, but not having been there, it's hard to know what was really going on. I understand that Shawn was the main photographer, so if there are any lingering questions, he's probably the guy to ask.

I'm so happy for Amie and Viktor. I'm only sorry that Gideon, Travis and I weren't able to be there. Enjoy!

I hope I look as good as Neil does when I reach his age, not crossing my fingers on that, wished I could have been there.
