...About the first time I met Will.
It was summer 1991, we had moved to Indiana. I didn't know anyone because school hadn't started yet when Shiloh & I went to our first church youth activity. I remember that we'd met most of the girls and at the end of the night we were standing out the parking lot talking to them and some of the leaders and advisors, telling them a little bit about ourselves, when the boys came over.
Well....most of the boys. I remember a very young, rather baby-faced Corey coming over and saying, "Ladies, Will would like to meet you." I had no idea who Will was, but all of a sudden there was a streak of long hair (Will was sporting a pretty good mullet at that time) and torn jeans rushing past us into the trees. He spent the rest of the night hiding up a tree somewhere with the leaders and the other boys looking for him.
Whatever it was about us that terrified Will into hiding up a tree, he must have gotten over. Eventually we became great friends. Will and his brothers & sister went up to Rockville High school, but we saw them at church at stuff. Will ended up being the perfect foil for me. (And I mean that as a compliment.) We argued. A lot. I was a smart-aleck know-it-all who enjoyed bossing people around (no comments about how nothing has changed) and Will was the only one of those boys who always seemed to know exactly how to knock me down a peg. It frustrated the life out of me!
Still does, actually. But I'm mature enough now to recognize that it's probably good for me.

Now hold on a minute. I was not running from you. Just as I walked out the door of the church one of the other young men (Allen I believe) yelled lets get Will, and the chase was on. Which was not all that uncommon among the Brazil boys. I had at that moment forgotten that we had guests. And for the record I never did get over my absolute terror of you. A blond with brains is a very scary thing indeed.
THAT'S MY GIRL!!!
To paraphrase Tex...."Her Mama didn't raise no stupid chil'ren!"
When I think of Will and Corey, these are the pictures that come to mind.
P.S. If anyone under 45, besides my children, can name the movies I stole that quote from I will proclaim you very intelligent and cultured!
Oops... Typo.
That is Movie, singular, not plural.
"When I think of Will and Corey, these are the pictures that come to mind."
I'm crying now.. real tears..
hahaha
Tears of joy, no doubt!
Of course.. Just look at that picture, that tan! I was THE MAN!
All I can say is that I owe a debt of gratitude to the fellow missionary who used the 'commitment pattern' to convince me to cut my hair while on my mission.
:)
We are all grateful to him for that one! :-) Love you kiddo!
You know Will,
John has lots of memories of you up in trees... Half the stories he's told me about you have to do with you in a tree!
Cindy, was that a John Wayne film?
Nope. Wrong Genre.
Wow, those are really scary pictures! He would probably let his hair grow that long again if he wasn't married to me. Every six weeks I have to nag to get him to go get a trim. Come to think of it, he ran from me for four months :)
Will in trees.... Hrrm reminds me of one evening... Something about Cali and .... I spare myself and Cali the embarassment of that statement....
This is all good stuff, it's so good to remember these times, makes me want to renew all of my friendships!
Ok im going to have to do a blog entry now about.... Wait for it...
