An Early Mother's Day Tribute

Happy Mother's Day to the Amazing Grandma Peggy.

The most organized woman I know. The only person I'm aware of who moved a dead dog across the country and kept it in a freezer for 3 years. The grandmother who, into her late 60's and early 70's would go on camping and hiking trips where you had to backpack for miles and sleep in a tent in sub zero temperatures. Grandma Peggy was the youngest of five children and the only daughter. Her full name is Peggy Suz Yoder Cunningham. As I'm sure you've guessed by her maiden name, her parents' background was Amish/Mennonite. She is the woman who when driving anywhere, will take a shortcut that's actually a farmer's access road through a cornfield, in order to save herself a couple of miles in the car. And let's not forget the only person in the world who has a freezer dedicated to just candy in her garage. (She buys chocolate marshmallow Santas at the after Christmas sales and freezes them and then eats them all year long. Seriously. I've never seen anyone devour that amount of sweets and not be diabetic. Her kitchen counters are covered (and I do mean covered, there's no counterspace on her island) with candy jars containing various types of candy and cookies. Believe me as a child it's heaven. As a weight concious adult, it's hell.)

But we wouldn't have her any other way!

Grandma Peggy just had surgery to replace a heart valve a few weeks ago. The doctors were amazed at how quickly she recovered. Especially for a woman her age. (She turned 82 in December.) Aunt Cindy told the doctors what we've all known for years. She's the Energizer Bunny. She just keeps going and going and going.......

We love you so much Grandma! Hope we get to see you soon!

She and Grandpa were married in 1948. Uncle Bill was born in '52 and my daddy in '54. Then David in '57 and Cindy Marie in '60. And that's the family on that side.

No this is not the dog that was in the freezer. This one is still living. That's Skipper.

Your Grandma is so sweet. And I love the black & white pics, they're amazing! They look like they were movie stars.
