I had a lot of chores to do over the weekend so we had to find ways to keep Gideon amused.
He likes his chair, but after about 45 minutes he's ready for a change.
Tummy time keeps him happily occupied for about 20 minutes usually.
Our first experience in the swing was not a happy one though. Oh well, maybe he'll learn to like it in the future.
This morning I was doing my 1930's silver screen siren look (complete with Jean Harlow red lips, Veronica Lake hair and red peep toes) so I asked Travis to take a picture of Gideon and I before church. I didn't realize until I just downloaded the photos that he must have misunderstood what I was asking.
Ei-Yai-Yai!
I'm glad we finally got a photo of this. Gideon's "Frankenstein hands" while he sleeps. It's absolutely hilarious and he does it all the time!
When I wasn't doing dishes, laundry, cleaning floors, preparing my lesson for church, balancing my checkbook, paying some bills and trying to scheme a way to make it to my cousin Julie's wedding next month (anyone in the vicinty of Austin, TX, if you wouldn't mind a house guest & her baby for a couple of days let me know) there were a few fun things.
Travis and I left Gideon with his parents Saturday night and went on a date. We had a nice dinner out and were going to go to a movie, but decided to go grocery shopping instead. The movie would have been cheaper, but oh well. It's the time together that matters.
When we got home I realized we'd forgotten charcoal and since everything we bought for Sunday dinner was built around burgers on the charcoal grill I sent Travis to the corner store while I got the munchkin ready for bed. I figured while he was going I'd have him pick up some swiss cheese and an avacado as well. He came home 30 minutes later having forgotten both the charcoal and avacado, but he did have 10 boxes of Lucky Charms. (Apparently they were 10 for $20 and he couldn't pass that up.) He also had 10 canisters of Lays Stacks (He informed me these were 10 for $10), Five bags of Lay's chips (You got it, five for $10) and 10 boxes of Cheerios in a variety of flavors. Now I'm all for saving money and finding a bargain. But when my husband gets so excited about Lucky Charms that he forgets the item he went to the store for in the first place. That's a little frustrating. Not to mention, we only eat cereal about once a week. And that's usually for a snack. Neither of us are big breakfast eaters. How are we ever going to get through all of this?
So our burgers were cooked on the propane grill today instead of on charcoal. They were fine of course, but I couldn't help rubbing it in a few times that they would have tasted better over charcoal. But no way was I about to send him back to the store again. I'd probably end up with 10 packages of brownie mix or a dozen cans of PAM Spray. (At least that, I might use.)

You might want to wait one more month, but once he's 2 months old I totally swear by and highly recommend the Baby Einstein DVD series. Baby Mozart, Baby Beethoven, and Baby Bach are designed for infants. The picture doesn't change quickly so it is safe for their developing minds (unlike normal TV) and they LOVE the classical music. Gideon will be happy as a clam for 30 minutes giving you time to get whatever done. They have plenty of copies at the library if you want to try before you buy :) Benjamin is almost 4 now and still enjoys watching them. - Stephanie
That is sooo funny. Whenever I send Ron to the store the same thing happens. Only he came home with dozens of boxes of Chex! And he always spends way more money on groceries than I would because he grabs random things or things we already have in the pantry. At least our husbands try to help though...I'm grateful for that!!!
Cody and I can help you out with the cereal when we get home. He wants Lucky Charms, I want some Cheerios. I love Travis!
This has me cracking up. Between the picture and all the grocery trips, I'm busting a gut.
However, I will say that my parents live just outside of Austin, TX and they happen to love house guests AND babies! Want me to set you up? (Before I appear altruistic, it is for purely selfish reasons...I wanna see Gideon in person!)
Leisha,
If you're serious and you don't think it would be a burden on your parents, what are you guys doing like June 5th-9th (the wedding is the 7th so I haven't decided on the dates firmly yet, but it would be around that weekend.)
Anyway I'm going stir-crazy, desperate to get out of I.F. and would love to take my son to my beloved native state for a few days. Let me know.
